Getting it's name from it's long strings of heart shaped leaves, the String of Hearts has long been a house plant staple due to it's easy nature and extremely fast growing stems.

The accepted botanical name is Ceropegia woodii f. varigata 'Marlies', but is also often referred to as Ceropegia variegata. It's commonly known as String of Hearts.

Finding the Right Spot

The most important aspect to the health of any house plant is finding a spot which meets it’s basic needs for light, temperature and water.

Perfecting the environment and ensuring long-term care needs are met will take your plant from surviving to thriving.

Ongoing Care

Take cuttings as necessary, rooting two nodes. Pot on separately or plant back in with the parent for a bushier plant. Don't rush to repot, they don't mind being a bit rootbound and excessive wet compost will lead to root rot.

Light

Plenty of bright light is ideal. They'll take a sunny spot as long as you stay on top of watering. Sun will increase the pink tone in the variegation.

Water & Humidity

Where possible, keep the surface of the compost dry to prevent stems rotting. Water from the bottom, allowing the compost to dry completely between soaks.

Temperature

Although we've seen these tolerate temperatures as low as 6º, we recommend keeping them at 12º year round.

Difficulty

Easy! Just don't over water.

Warnings

Although these are non-toxic for pets and children, the same can't be said in reverse! Babies and cats love pulling on them and they tangle easily into fingers and claws, so we recommend keeping them out of reach of pets and children for the sake of the plant!
